Bronchial Asthma (BA) is a chronic inflammatory disease increasingly recognized as having complex links with nutritional status. This article explores the critical relationship between Vitamin D deficiency and poor Asthma Control, focusing on the underlying clinical and immunological mechanisms. Low Vitamin D levels are consistently associated with increased asthma severity, frequent exacerbations, reduced lung function, and potentially poor response to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). Immunologically, Vitamin D acts as a potent immunomodulator by suppressing pro-inflammatory Th2 responses, enhancing anti-inflammatory mechanisms, and improving corticosteroid receptor function. Understanding this critical link provides a foundation for incorporating Vitamin D supplementation as an adjunct therapeutic strategy, especially in patients with severe or poorly controlled asthma.
